  • The GM 3/4 tons and 1 ton trucks have been very sturdy with the notable exception of the interior plastics. The new 2019/2020 Chevrolet/GMC HD trucks even have the makings to be a stout rig assuming the 6.6L gas V8 is as sturdy as the old 6.0L Vortec. The Duramax Diesel/Allison pairing has always been very good as well but likely way too expensive for a lot of fleets. I think the T800s were the last generation you could get a stick shift on a Silverado. I wish they'd bring a good 6 speed manual back.

  • Looks like sumbuudy getting commish. I worked at a plant in Canada building these and recall the color well. But let me spin. The maintenance staff back at forestry had some time to kill so let's make sure we service the vehicle. They look busy & not their dime. Same with the student hires for summer. " make sure all the vehicles are cleaned as they come in " Then there is the tried and true corporate small block engine as it was known at the time. Proprietary wax coating on the frame delivered and we did the anti-corrosion paint dip to the " Mark Of Excellence ". The crew in the Tar Sands loved these trucks since they held up well in that environment and the the fellows that logged 1 M miles on this model had them serviced religiously. Any vehicle will survive and look good if properly looked after TH. All pickup trucks have their place and I have always placed the Silverado/ Sierra ( C/K) in the gentleman's corral

  • My wife and ii have a 2006 rcsb half ton with the lm7 5.3, 4l60e, 4 wheel drive, 4.10 gears and we love our truck. And yes it a baby!, It has only 15,000 miles on it and is garage kept. We put the banks power pack on it and it is a hand full to drive. The power is amazing. We get 26 mpg on the highway, driving sensibly of course. The truck rides like a dream! Our dealership said it's extremely rare build that came from the factory as well. Our truck is victory red with dark charcoal velour interior all loaded out. Needless to say we get lots of attention when we are out in it. Thanks for sharing your video with us. It's nice to hear that others appreciate these trucks as much as we do. Keep up the great work.

  • Had a few GMT800s, none have ever had a knock sensor issue...virtually all CEL issues in my case have been with the evap leaks. Current 2004 Sierra 1500 has intermittent airbag warnings but only when I have an adult passenger in the passenger front seat...never a child. These things will last forever...my last one had an engine fire about a year after I sold it, guy put it out, replaced some vacuum lines that melted and put another 20k hard farm/snow plow miles before he sold it...still in use today. Biggest problem with them are the rockers on extended cabs turn to swiss cheese.

  • These don't hold up to constant off-road use. I've seen the underside of these fall to pieces in 60 or 70 thousand miles when used on surface coalmines. To be fair the high silica dirt and mud will destroy any automobile pretty quickly.

  • I would still be driving my '03 if it didn't rust away to dust. In Illinois, the salt will get it in the first 5 years or so, and there's literally nothing that will save it. It had some minor issues, but the worst was the front hubs that went out and they were rusted in so bad it took us about 4 hours to get them out. Brake lines rusted away and they were replaced and that was it. traded it in shortly thereafter. I gotta say that truck performed beautifully..... started every time, shifted and drove great and still had the factory exhaust after all those years in the salt!!! As far as your claim of "lasting forever" will be taken with a grain of salt (cough-cough... damn salt).

  • Dude, I've purchased an 02 2500hd 8.1 and an 02 2500hd duramax and that was 16 years ago and those sobs are still jerking houses off of foundation's lol!! My dad has a 08 2500hd with the 6.0 and it has 305,000 miles and that truck has been bulletproof since day 1 when he bought it new!. Now ofcourse you have to add in mechanical issues such as fuel pump, waterpump, ac compressor, hoses, alternator, batteries and tune ups but I mean that shit is cosmetic! They are gas guzzlers but they do the job they were built to do and do it for awhile! In my personal opinion because I now own a 2020 2500hd with the 6.6 gasser, I would take my oldies anyday over my newborn truck! The older trucks were stopped being made as durable just like the Honda fourtrax 300 was abolished.. they lasted forever even dry of oil and constant crashes and abuse and they weren't making any money off of them! Notice how you can buy a new 2020 or 21 vehicle and 3 weeks later you receive your 1st recall..?? Money gimmick bros! Ill take durability and reliability anyday over fancy electronics and a price tag too high you wanna commit suicide if someone attempts to put a load of gravel in the bed!!

I lease Ford vehicles (F150's, Escapes, Edge) love the creature comforts and good mpg but agree with you though, if I was going to buy a truck (Since I'm a Ford guy, nothing against other makes it's just what I like and familiar with) it would be the last of the carbureted 351 Windsor V8's 4x4. Source a good rust free one (LoL!). Easy and cheap to work on.
