  • Your roads sucks bad, thats for sure eating up cars, i guess its concrete-parts with a growing horisontal edge at each sector? The county should be guilty to pay carowners a decent sum a year for their neglige of maintanace.

  • Most of this is a history of really poor maintenance, lack of upgrading known failure points and some exaggeration thrown in for views. They are not nearly that bad if you spend the time and effort. Damn near every problem mentioned has a video showing how to fix it yourself.

  • I am just not sure why you would think that buying a cheap X5, that was obviously maintained poorly, should be a perfectly reliable car? It doesn't matter if it were a Honda, Toyota, BMW, or Mercedes. Poor maintenance = poor car. So for background, I currently own 3 BMWs, E39 540i (6 speed), E53 X5 4.8is, and 2014 BMW 328i. And I am a weekend mechanic who maintains them and even rebuilt the VANOS on my 540i so I know a thing or two about these cars. My experience with these cars is completely the OPPOSITE of you, they are all great cars. It does not seem like you know very much about cars so maybe that is part of the problem. For starters, you complained about the "brake lining" warning light. You realize that is a standard maintenance item to replace your brake pads right? Has nothing to do with being a "terrible V8 BMW". Also "rear light" warning just means a bulb is burned out, again standard maintenance issue with any car and it is nice to have the warning system to tell you that! And the window regulator? I have owned three Hondas (2x Accords, and 1x Civic), Guess what? Had to replace regulators in each of those but I have not replaced a single regulator in my BMWs yet. The rear view mirror was obviously damaged before you broke it off. The previous owner had a little accident with it, again not a BMW issue. And the sagging air suspension? Rubber boots on air springs (regardless of vehicle) will fail. Doesn't matter if a BMW, Range Rover, Lincoln, Peterbilt Truck, bus, or RV. These are all standard maintenance items that need to be replaced and each of these vehicles will "sag" if the spring has not been replaced and is cracked due to age (oh and I own a 40ft RV with air suspension also). Axle boots? Come on, my Hondas tore through those also, again standard maintenance issue for any car. Steering off? I am on my second set of tires on the X5 and the alignment was checked both times and was barely off, in fact the vehicle has never pulled to any direction, only the computer said the alignment was a hair off. So I have had two transmission failures in my Hondas, and ZERO in my BMWs. So you should rethink what you say about these cars before you lose some credibility. Try to be a bit more objective in your reviews.

  • I got the e53 first generation it is 3.0D and it’s doing great over the years. And the parts are not that expensive at all... for example : lower control arm (front) new around 40$ (here in Bulgaria will be like 70BGN) It have a good aftermarket support , you can find new or used parts everywhere. But this particular one is broken all the ways possible 😂😂 And it had the shity 4.4i with is known with issues 😃

  • Really!! Take any modern electronic car that has had no maintenance and been driven into the ground and you will find similar issues. This is why it was only a thousand bucks. I have an E53 with 222000Kms, and yes, there was some work needed on CV boots, front suspension bushes, LH front door handle etc. I also had to put on a new aircon compressor and a new nav display. But it drives well and is reliable as long as you keep the correct maintenance up to it. Oh yeah, if you use wrong oil it does no good for the cats either. Here in Australia, BMW parts are more than double what you guys pay, and some of my bits came from the US. The old adage of you get what you pay for applies here.

  • Sad end to an easy fix by a DIY that can turn a spanner. Sure, it doesn't make economic sense to pay and indy or dealer to return it to good mechanical condition. Mine is going strong with no issues. When brake pads wear out I change them. When a door handle gives up, I'll replace it in less than an hour. When the window regulator fails, I'll replace it in less than an hour and half. Airbag suspension replace with OEM or gas struts - the later is easy and handling is still excellent for an SUV. Oil leaks can be taken care of over a single weekend and won't be back for at least 100 thou or so - you likely won't still own it by then. As for codes most of the codes discussed would easily be cleared. The only people who shouldn't buy an X5 e53, are the ones than can't do the bulk of the maintenance themselves - which puts them out of the market for almost any 10 year old euro car and many others. Those that want a hassle free motor can buy the diesel variant that has plenty of torque.

BMW uses the absolute worst plastics, and not just on the trim but also on important stuff like wiring and sensors. The engine light came on as I was leaving the BMW dealership the day I purchased it (yes seriously) and it was just one thing after another for the next 2 years. I will never buy a BMW again.

  • There isn't a vehicle on earth whether it's a BMW or not that is not going to have problems when it has had 10 owners or something like this one. If a car that was once very expensive is not maintained with OEM parts in official dealers/decent shops it's not gonna last long. People shouldn't blame the X5's only, because it mostly isn't their fault for being in the shape they are..

  • I had an E53 LCI X5. It was problem free. I even that the rear air suspension. I had to turn it in too early because my company had a rule about not having a car that was more than 4 years old. Replaced it with an E70 X5, likewise no issues. I was sorry to see that one go too. That said, I prefer straight 6 engines from BMW to their V8's. I would not buy an air suspension on a passenger vehicle - the bags do not last as long as springs and are more expensive to replace. That X5 could have had its suspension swapped for a coil spring version, but maintenance neglect killed the catalysts, and the engine job is beyond most home mechanics. Maintenance is the key. In the long run it saves you money.

Coolant let was nothing, door handles could simply be so one pulled to hard to many times, that happens on any car if treated hard. I owned a 02 range rover for 10 years people also said the same about the rover, well they where wrong.

  • If you buy a used car just do all work yourself and get all those parts off of wrecked cars at a pick and pull junkyard, and you will have it in good condition for almost nothing. Make sure your engine starts and drives before you buy it. But door glass, suspension and other stuff can be fixed cheaply with junkyard parts, but you might want to avoid cars with air ride suspensions although you can get air ride struts that have been rebuilt cheaply, just slightly more cost. What costs the most is labor and new parts. But if you get used parts and do the labor it will cost a lot of time but it's also an entertaining hobby.

  • A lot of things doesn't make sense in this video. Chassis problems are on all cars and you eventually need to replace things, so if old owner didn't do a shit it doesn't mean that it's BMW problem. Looking at codes like that just makes me sad. You need to delete all errors and then go drive that car. There might be a lot of codes for no reason. If your battery dies there's a lot of codes will come out, even transmission limp mode can come out because of low battery. So seeing that there's one problem with it doesn't mean that there's one.
