  • My mother had a similar 1990 Chevrolet G-20 as her daily vehicle, put 40k on it in 3 years (had 215k) before sold. It was a good van with couple of issues.

  • Lux cars in America need to make those kinds of seats again. Not sure why every luxury car thinks it has to use leather, it's usually not great, just make higher quality comfortable cloth seats.

  • I had one in 1981, it was a short box it was awesome I had a stained glass window with two sea gulls put in the sliding door & an extra gas tank. I love that vehicle.

  • Love that van. I always wondered why they quit making them. Had a 1974 Dodge Factory custom with a 318. I could park it and get in the back without going outside, because there was nothing between the front seats. The V-8 engine definitely was a plus. It makes me wonder, with all the retro vehicles being made, why they don't make a simple van like these again.

  • My mom bought a Dodge one in 1982. We went everywhere in it. When I got old enough to start driving, I drove it to school every day. I was quite popular in high school because of it. I had a Metallica tapestry in one window and Iron Maiden in the other. Those were the days. Partied my ass off in that thing.

  • Replace the fuel pump if it has not been already, or pressure drops and Cylinder 1 runs rich til it burns the rings out. Replace the rear outer axle bearings, cause they last about 150k. Other than that, these are awesome. I've owned several.

  • Many HOA's and cities will not allow you to park a Van like this, in your drive way or on the street. They call it a "camper" and they made "rules" against "camping" to try and cut down on the homeless or people that chose to live in a van .... "DOWN BY THE RIVER" !

They were the best and max comfort. 4 captain chairs and a couch that converts to a bed. The lighting was nice and could be on even if I drove at night. Wonderful driving in a captain’s chair is amazing

  • I remember the bar scene in Chicago back in the late 70's to the early 80's and these were the rigs that married guys who were cheating on their wives gravitated to. They were mini motels on wheels, and when they got lucky they didn't have to look far for a place to lay it down and cover it up. I was young and single at the time so I couldn't relate, but those guys use to tell me that the best benefit was not having to account for motel bills showing up on their credit cards.

  • We had one from 1989-2005. If you're used to driving trucks and stuff, these vans actually handle and drive pretty good for their size and weight. MPG isn't too bad either.

  • I owned one back in the 1990s when I had young kids and I can tell you why they died out. Mine was a 1990 Chevy Van 20. They died because of two main factors. #1) On a good day they got 11 mpg in the city and maybe 15 highway. I remember driving from Utah to Colorado to visit my parents, as we got into those mountains we would average 8 mpg when we got into the higher altitudes and were climbing up the canyons. When the Ford Windstar came out in 1995 it completely killed the market for big V8 vans. My wife wanted us to trade in the Chevy Van for a Windstar because it was smaller and got really good gas mileage since it was a V6. I refused. #2) When the van got around 130,000 miles it just started nickel and diming me to death. I did drive it to 200,000 miles and sold it in 2004 once my youngest started to drive and we did not need a van anymore, but I probably spent $6,000'ish dollars to keep that van running from 130,000 to 200,000. Was it comfortable? Hell yes it was and it is why we did keep it as long as we did.

  • I never had one, but I've worked on several as a Walmart Auto Care Center technician. Basically, they are just like working on a similar make pickup with a couple noted differences. One, the most blatant, is the foot room for the front passengers is horrible. I don't think I'd own one just for that reason. It's worse than a first generation Jeep Liberty 2002-2005 or so. Working on them is a bit of a different task. Some are actually not bad. Changing the battery is very easy, almost as easy as on a similar pickup. The Air filter, for the most part, is right out in the open just under the hood. Very easy to service.(The older vans had the filter in the normal top of engine location, but that was only accessible from under the dog house). Checking engine oil and transmission oil are also very easy, there are extra long dipsticks that thread to the front of the engine and are very easily accessible from under the hood, as well as the engine oil refill tube. The power steering is a bit of a challenge to reach, but not impossible. The rest of the fluid level checks and refills are also located at the front, however, the spark plugs and ignition timing check will require removing the dog house to access and service. We don't provide that type of servicing at Walmart anyway, nor would we check the engine coolant or brake fluid levels. The under-body servicing is also fairly straight forward, with the exception of greasing the front steering system. Usually there are anywhere from 2 to 11 grease fittings on a normal pickup, but there could be upwards of 13+ on a van. Overall, this is a beautiful van both inside and out, and would be a very nice family van, but the one question he didn't answer, what kind of mileage does it get?

I can tell you everything inside waa hand made, Mark III kicked off the cheap prefab interiors which cemented the demand for my father's vans. 80s was awesome!!

  • Dude I swear you sound just like me talking about how badass these vans are I've had 2 a 91 and a 95 both high tops and the 95 was the chevy G20 explorer package top of the line leather LEDs everywhere running boards with 8 running lights on both sides 2 sky lights and and electric sunroof my rear seat was a 3 piece couch so it made a full size bed that was actually pretty comfortable I do have to say the new vans are amazing Yes the are just like limos but still awesome they just don't have all the outside accessories like the 80s and 90s ones had These vehicles literally are the most comfortable and completely underrated
