  • You got off lightly. At least you were able to get home. My brother had an X-3, and when a plastic gear in the transfer case broke, the car would go into limp home mode if you tried to accelerate too hard. At that point, 35 mpg was top speed. Not good when entering a highway. He now has an F-350 Turbodiesel. The urea injection system failed. Limp home mode allowed 50 mph, BUT after 35 miles it shuts down, and needs a reset to run again. Disconnecting the battery does not do it. He carries a marine rescue beacon, do if the damned thing dies between Whitehorse and home in Faro, Yukon, the Air Force will come and rescue him!

  • Watching Hoovie and Scotty has cured me of any desire to own a German car. My mate has a fairly late model Audi A7. It got a coolant leak which leaked into a plug that is connected to a computer module. This has ruined the computer and it has to be replaced, and it's located in the gearbox of all places. Audi want 6k just for the unit ( 8K with labour ) and he can't get a used one because Audi program the unit to the car and it can't be transferred to another car. They are complete scam machines. I'm in no hurry to buy one

  • Once these cars are all sorted they are one of the best sport sedans out there period! They are the total package. You must keep your maintenance up on them once you do they are more fun to drive than any sedan anywhere the power the handing is super good for a car this size and I know I own one myself who ever try to fix it themselfs screwed it all up as you can see. Wizard gave up on it because they can be very hard to work on they are very complex mechs to began with not like a lot of other BMWs like my M3 Tyer like he said is just getting it back where it should have been because the other owners didnt take that good of care of it and didnt know what they where doing. These cars are so much fun to drive it makes you never want to sell it no matter what going on with it.

Besides few nasty issues like the timing chain there is not much problems compared to other brands like GM and Ford. Never knew e.g. seat heaters could break down before I had Ford/GM car.

The service engine soon light comes on 2 days after I turn it off, and it jerks once in a while when I clamp on the accelerator, but other than that, with 130k Miles, there are no problems yet. It's like a Ford. It will drive while broken

  • I had to limp mode my BMW 160km home once. Turned a 2 hour drive into a 6 hour drive. Tow was going to be $3000 so I said fuck it and since it was 2am the roads were fairly quiet. A tip you can use to break the limp mode is to floor it down a hill and put it in the highest gear which will significantly reduce the engine breaking for a while.

Leave this v8 stuff to the muricans and the v12 stuff to italians, cause they will come up with better, more reliable results. But then again.. if you want a good 7 series bmw you will go for an e38 anyways. All that came after are just fancy trash.
