  • My parents bought a 95 Black mark viii brand new at the time after seeing it at the Chicago auto show. They passed the car down to me when I could drive and it was an amazing car. Fast and sleek. I joined several mark viii forums and was in a LoD Lincoln car club in Chicago. Very fun group and met a lot of awesome people. Sold the car to a gentleman down south in Illinois few years later. I’ll always have a soft spot for these beautiful and luxurious cars for their time. I blacked it all out and installed a Cobra R cowl hood which gave it an amazing appearance coupled with a magnaflow exhaust with X pipe. The car sounded amazing and always turned heads. The down side.... the transmission(s).....

  • This is one of America's best-kept secrets! The Lincoln MK VIII is a "Pre-Cobra" most aren't even aware of! Under that long sculpted hood beats the heart of a beast - a 4.6 litre 280-HP 32-valve Quad-cam V8 engine. And they are so inexpensive to purchase and to own. Parts are plentiful and you can work on these yourself. I found a one-owner 1993 MK VIII that's never seen inclement weather. The undercarriage is 100% corrosion-free. The lower body quarter panels have NO rust or paint chips. This car is so well-maintained nothing has been abused. The leather still smells aromatic and has no cracks or fading. The car was just dirty when I bought it. It's condition surprised me. I didn't expect a 27 year old car to be this nice inside and out. They may be tweaked-out like the Mustang Cobra. The only limitation with this Lincoln MK VIII is your own imagination. I have seen some mighty conversions coming from these semi-humble machines! They are just awesome for the money. The Lincoln MK VIII is a 'sleeper' just waiting to appreciate. Remember the Continental MK II? For a while, those cars were dirt-cheap to buy. Now, if you're lucky to find one - it will have a premium price. I have seen some pristine examples sell into six-figures. So will this happen with the MK VIII? We have to wait and see. This is the last in the eminent Mark Series, and the last large 2-door luxury coupe made by Ford Motor Company. Grab these while you can! They are relatively inexpensive to restore. Do NOT replace the air suspension with those after-market air-to coil conversion kits. This type of conversion takes away the super-soft ride Lincoln is notorious for, leaving you with a stiff, not to mention hard ride. Many find out the hard way AFTER converting it! The air suspension isn't really that expensive to replace. The parts for the suspension are also plentiful. The Lincoln MK VIII's suspension automatically lowers itself at highway speeds enhancing its aerodynamic efficiency. My air suspension is still functional. My MK VIII sips premium gasoline sparingly. There are many types of aftermarket performance enhancing items out there to make your MK VIII as personal as your own finger prints. When I bought mine...I wasn't really looking for a car like this. What really intrigues me is its engine and the things one may do to it to further coerce it into the mean-machine it can be. C'mon crude low-riders now! That ruins a car. Don't molest these babies because like I stated - they are going to begin appreciating most favorably. Parts are all over eBay and are very affordable. The weakness of the 1993-1996 MK VIII is the headlamps. Those hot halogen bulbs burn the reflectors and sometimes, the inside of the headlamp unit. Get yourself a nice replacement set if you can find them. Restore them by using a little elbow grease. I over-polished my lens to the point the appear jeweled. Instead of the standard halogen bulbs - I opted for the Blue Xenon-fueled halogen bulbs which are brighter and combined with my over-polishing - makes them light my way father ahead than the standard bulbs. If you switch to LEDs, you may run into flickering or they will consistently set off the headlamp warnings in the info center in the dash which is very annoying. You will have to purchase a ballast to cancel the electronic warning and cease the flickering. Try the Xenon-fueled halogens, you will see a difference without issues. The Lincoln MK VIII is as much fun to own as it is to drive! It's a classic on a budget right now. Buy one now while they are inexpensive and tuck it away for a rainy day when you want to tinker with something. I played with mine during the coronavirus lock-down. Remember...the Lincoln MK VIII is really a Cobra wearing a fake nose, mustache and glasses! The fun part - find a Dodge Charger or a Chevy Camaro to tease! I have SMOKED many Chargers - the part I like most - I step on the gas and the Dodge Charger is a faint image in my rear-view mirror!!!!! And watch the MK VIII blow the doors off of a Chevy Camaro! Wait until you see the look on their faces - that is, if they can make it to the next traffic light to catch up with you! A Lincoln MK VIII is VICIOUS in every respect!!!! It's really a high-performance car dressed in street clothes -
